If You Really Wanted a Serious Relationship You Would Fix These 5 ...

From YourTango.com

By?Sabrina Jennings

Biologically, we are all driven to find and bed a mate. From the occasional fling, to locking it down through the legal system, everyone shares that same desire of human connection. So with all of that need coursing through our veins, why are YOU sitting at home in your studio apartment streaming Netflix on your laptop, gaming on your Xbox, or mercilously weeping into ugly couch pillows over the sufferage of a non existent?dating?life? Why does everyone else seem to be so blissfully in?love?while you remain the pitied?Single?of your immediate circle of friends? Sure, you can blame that one Ex for scarring you so greatly making faith and trust in someone new an impossible feat, you can accuse the cosmos for sending every astrological opposite your way instead of the ?perfect match? Yahoo Shine religiously insists for you daily via email spam, or you can face the real reason that you haven?t been able to join the rest of the rose colored ranks; You.

In my last article, I did some mentioning of how we can be our own worst enemies by having certain expectations when it comes to our personal lives. If you want to get to a place where you can find and keep a happy, healthy relationship, then you need to get out of your own f***ing way. The roadblocks I?m speaking of are common knowledge, but these are five regular offenses being made anyway that are keeping you dateless and alone.

Check out the five mistakes on YourTango.com.

Writing Effective Cover Letters | Minnesota Works Blog

Your cover letter, along with your business card and resume, is an important tool of the job-hunting trade.

Written in business style, cover letters should contain an expression of your interest in working for a company, an abbreviated introduction to your career and a short, compelling paragraph detailing why you would be a perfect fit for a current or future opening.???

Each letter must be targeted for each position you seek or contact you make. Deciding what to put in the letter remains tricky since you do not want to repeat your entire resume, yet you will want to make a strong case for a company to, in fact, look at your skills and experience to see if they fit any open positions.?

Cover letters are employed in a variety of circumstances, ranging from applying for advertised jobs to serving as a ?letter of introduction? to companies where you want to work, requesting networking leads or informational interviews. The targeted audience may be different, but the general approach remains the same: Put your best foot forward.

Cover letters serve different readers. Typically, cover letters are targeted at specific job openings in a company. These ?application? letters match your qualifications to a position?s advertised requirements.

Another variation, the ?prospecting? letter, is used to contact employers who haven?t advertised or published job openings. These letters call for describing your skills and matching them to the perceived needs of the employer based on your research.

The ?networking? letter, in contrast, first refers to the person who gave you the referral before asking for an informational interview or, in the case of an opening, consideration for the position. It?s fine to ask in a networking letter for recipients to share more contacts at other companies if they?re willing.

Whenever using any of these letters remember to include a section attachment ? your resume. Cover letters use standard business letter formats. Below your name and address ? or masthead ? will be the date, followed by an empty line, then the recipient?s name and title, street address, city, state and ZIP code.

Tips for writing cover letters:

  • Address a Person?
Always address the letter to a specific person by name and title. Even if responding to a job that states ?no phone calls? consider calling to politely ask the name of the hiring authority. You may not always be able to identify the name of a specific person. In this case, send the letter to the title of the recipient (Production Manager, Maintenance Supervisor, Office Manager, Human Resources or Search Committee). Avoid ?To Whom It May Concern.?
  • State Your Intent?
In general, state your interest in the job.?In the case of a letter of introduction, simply state you would like to work for the company. Use the first paragraph to express your energy, enthusiasm, skills, education and work experience
that could contribute to the company?s success.
  • Use the second and third paragraphs, or a list of bullet points, that exhibit briefly your talents, experience and achievements. These can be brief summaries of what you illuminate in greater detail in your attached resume.
  • The T Formation
Consider the ?T? letter format, which first names the specific requirements an employer has asked for in an ad and your corresponding qualifications. If you have collected a list of likely qualifications for the positions you seek, you can do the same thing.
  • The Final Paragraph
Mention you will make a follow-up call within a week, perhaps within a few days, to confirm the document has been received and to ask for an interview. Thank the person for taking the time to read your letter. And use the appropriate closing, such as ?Sincerely.?

One More Look
Proofread your letter to check content, grammar and spelling, and ask someone else to have a look, too. Sign the letter in blue or black ink.

Avoid appearing too familiar, overbearing, humorous or cute. Avoid starting too many sentences or bullet points with ?I?? if possible. Keep sentences short and to the point. The entire letter should be one page composed of three to five paragraphs. Remember, your resume will fill in details.

Can You Guess These Athletes? Nationalities?

In the 1960s and ?70s, psychologists Paul Ekman and Wallace Friesen showed that people all over the world use the same facial expressions to convey basic emotions. They studied the Fore, an isolated, preliterate culture from the highlands of New Guinea. Through a translator, Ekman and Friesen told stories to a group of Fore describing different emotions, such as happiness, sadness, fear, and disgust. Then they showed the New Guineans pictures of facial expressions and asked them to match the picture to the story. Despite their seclusion, the Fore understood facial expressions in the same manner as a control group of New Guineans who spoke English, watched movies, and went to school. Happiness, for instance, was nearly always associated with mouth turned up at the corners.

Coming soon: Movies of electrons in motion

22 hrs.

Ever wonder what an electron looks like as it orbits a proton? Within a few years you can stop wondering. Scientists are on the cusp of capturing the action and putting it on the big screen.

With the aid of super-short X-ray pulses, scientists can generate static pictures of things such as hydrogen atoms. Up next is the ability to stitch them together to make a movie with a frame rate of an image per femtosecond, Technology Review reports.

The technique is being pioneered by a team of theorists at the Center for Free Electron Laser Science at DESY in Hamburg, Germany, and described earlier this month in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.?

Key to making it all work is a clear understanding of how the X-ray pulses interact with the electrons and distort the shape of the hydrogen atom, an effect that until now has largely been ignored given its complexity.

The German researchers calculated what the effect would be?and found it would be substantial. Understanding this, in turn, is a key step for interpreting the movies they will?be making once technology catches up to theory.

For more information, check out Technology Review?s coverage and read the paper in PNAS.?

Ghana's Mills: The law professor who became president

Ghana's President John Atta Mills, who died suddenly on Tuesday five months before he was due to stand for reelection, was a law professor turned politician who had long sought his country's top job. He was 68.

The West African nation's presidency said he died hours after falling ill at a hospital in the capital Accra, but did not provide a cause.

Mills finally claimed the presidency in 2008, after losing twice previously to former president John Kufuor, in 2000 and again in 2004. He oversaw the start of large-scale oil production in Ghana in December 2010.

Family members previously said that Mills, a former vice-president to the mercurial and charismatic ex-leader Jerry Rawlings, grew up with a "desire to serve others, especially the under-privileged".

The soft-spoken Mills was finally elected under the slogan "A Better Man for a Better Ghana."

Mills rose to prominence in 1997 when Rawlings named him vice president -- a position he held until the former coup leader-turned-elected president made way for Kufuor after the 2000 elections.

Some analysts said that his political career was hampered by the fact that he was seen as too close to Rawlings.

Representing the National Democratic Congress, Mills, popularly referred to as "The Prof", had presented himself as transparent, humble and willing to learn from his mistakes.

He based his presidential campaign on a call for change and a move towards what he called "welfarism and a people-centred approach to managing the affairs of state".

A democracy advocate once described Mills, who at one time headed the national revenue collection agency, as "principled" and "not corruptible".

He had more than a dozen publications to his credit, many of them on taxation.

His affable, down-to-earth style disguised an "exceptional academic brilliance and an incredible athletic prowess," his brother has said.

After finishing his law studies in Britain, Mills came home to teach law for 25 years at a Ghana university.

A football fanatic like so many other Ghanaians, he was also an avid hockey player and was said to have swam almost daily for about two hours. He had served on the board of one of Ghana's top football clubs, Hearts of Oak and also supported English Premier League side Manchester United.

Mills was married and had a son who is now in his twenties.

According to the constitution, Vice President John Dramani Mahama is to take over as interim leader and he was to address the nation shortly.

Zimbabwe unions petition government over pay

Scores of Zimbabwean government workers protested in the capital on Tuesday demanding a near doubling of basic wages, after the finance minister ruled out any increases due to budget cuts.

Union leaders had urged the nation's 230,000 government workers to take to the streets on Tuesday, but only about 150 showed up in a city park as union leaders led a march to present a petition to Finance Minister Tendai Biti's office and to parliament.

The petition urged parliament to reject Biti's mid-term budget, which ruled out any increases.

Workers want across-the-board pay rises, including a raise from $286 to $560 a month for the lowest-paid government workers.

"We are united in our conviction that we deserve better," Raymond Majongwe, president of the Progressive Teachers Union, told the gathering.

"We are saying to Biti, 'get money from diamonds, chrome, platinum and other resources and pay the workers'," he said, accusing Zimbabwe's unity government of "total neglect."

Long-ruling President Robert Mugabe and Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai formed a coalition government in 2009.

Since then, the hyperinflation-ravaged economy has improved but remains a fraction of its former size.

Female space shuttle commanders remember Sally Ride (+video)

Two women who became space shuttle commanders after seeing Sally Ride's historic flight in 1983, reflect on the legacy of the first American woman in space.

Seth Doane takes a look back at her remarkable life and legacy.

Sally Ride became the first American woman in space when she flew on the space shuttle Challenger in 1983. Since then, dozens of U.S. females have made spaceflights. Two of them, Eileen Collins and Pamela Melroy, achieved another historic milestone, becoming the only women to command a space shuttle mission.

"I knew I wanted to be an astronaut from watching the Apollo astronauts land on the moon, but Sally cemented the belief inside me that I could do it," Melroy wrote in an email to SPACE.com. "She paved the way for women to work in space and made it so much easier for other women to follow where she led."

Collins became the first female space shuttle commander when she led the STS-93 flight of the shuttle Columbia in July 1999, just 16 years after Ride's first flight. Melroy then commanded the space shuttle Discovery in 2007, becoming the last woman to command a shuttle before the fleet retired in 2011. [Sally Ride: 1st American Woman in Space (Pictures)]

"I am surprised and saddened by the news of Sally Ride?s passing," Collins wrote in an email yesterday.?"She was such a wonderful role model and source of inspiration to me.? People around the world still recognize her name as the first American woman in space, and she took that title seriously even after departing NASA.? She mentored me several times during my astronaut career, leaving me with many cherished memories."

Collins, who retired from NASA in 2006, said Ride inspired by example.

"She never sought media attention for herself, but rather focused on doing her normally outstanding job," Collins said.?"Her 'Sally Ride Science' programs have reached thousands of middle school girls, giving them the confidence to stay focused on math and science, even when the mass media message was otherwise. She also played a notable role in both the Challenger and Columbia accident investigations.? Sally left us too soon. God Speed Sally, you will be greatly missed."

Obama vs. Romney: An MBA's View

I've been watching the battle for the White House with some trepidation, largely because I believe that given how dysfunctional Congress is, even a god would be ineffective as president. I voted for and have largely been disappointed in Obama who has so far repeated most of Jimmy Carter's mistakes. I haven't yet been a supporter of Romney, who appears to be a rich guy who wants to buy the presidency.

BEIRUT (AP) ? Syria threatened Monday to unleash its chemical and biological weapons if the country faces a foreign attack, a desperate warning from a regime that has failed to crush a powerful and strengthening rebellion.

The statement ? Syria's first-ever acknowledgement that the country possesses weapons of mass destruction ? suggests President Bashar Assad will continue the fight to stay in power, regardless of the cost.

"It would be reprehensible if anybody in Syria is contemplating use of such weapons of mass destruction like chemical weapons," U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said during a trip to Belgrade, Serbia. "I sincerely hope the international community will keep an eye on this so that there will be no such things happening."

Syria is believed to have nerve agents as well as mustard gas, Scud missiles capable of delivering these lethal chemicals and a variety of advanced conventional arms, including anti-tank rockets and late-model portable anti-aircraft missiles.

During a televised news conference Monday, Foreign Ministry spokesman Jihad Makdissi stressed that the weapons are secure and would only be used in the case of an external attack.

"No chemical or biological weapons will ever be used, and I repeat, will never be used, during the crisis in Syria no matter what the developments inside Syria," he said. "All of these types of weapons are in storage and under security and the direct supervision of the Syrian armed forces and will never be used unless Syria is exposed to external aggression."

The Syrian government later tried to back off from the announcement, sending journalists an amendment to the prepared statement read out by Makdissi. The amendment said "all of these types of weapons ? IF ANY ? are in storage and under security." It was an attempt to return to Damascus' position of neither confirming nor denying the existence of unconventional weapons.

In his comments to reporters, Makdissi also repeated the regime's assertion that the country's 17-month-old conflict, which activists say has killed at least 19,000 people, is not the result of a popular uprising, casting it instead as the work of foreign extremists looking to destroy the nation.

Israel and the U.S. are concerned that Syria's stockpile of chemical weapons could fall into the hands of Islamist militants should the regime in Damascus collapse. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned Sunday that his country would "have to act" if necessary to safeguard the arsenal from rogue elements.

In Washington, State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland said Monday that "any possible use of these kinds of weapons would be completely unacceptable."

"The Syrian regime has a responsibility to the world, has a responsibility first and foremost to its own citizens to protect and safeguard those weapons," she said, adding that Washington was working with allies to monitor the situation and send the message to both Syria's government and opposition about the importance of protecting unconventional weapons.

A senior U.S. intelligence official said Friday the Syrians have moved chemical weapons material from the country's north, where the fighting was fiercest, apparently to both secure and consolidate it, which U.S. officials considered a responsible step.

But there has also been a disturbing rise in activity at the installations, so the U.S. intelligence community is intensifying its monitoring efforts to track the weapons and try to figure out whether the Syrians are trying to use them, the official said on condition of anonymity to discuss the still-evolving investigation.

Concerns over Syria's long-suspected chemical weapons stockpiles have skyrocketed in recent days as the rebels gain serious momentum in their fight to oust the Assad regime.

Since last week, the anti-Assad fighters have claimed a stunning bomb attack that killed four high-level security officials in Damascus, captured several border crossings and launched sustained offensives in Damascus and Aleppo, the two largest cities and both regime strongholds.

Makdissi tried to assure Syrians that the situation was under control, despite reports of clashes throughout the country.

"Yes, there were clashes on certain streets in certain neighborhoods, but the security situation is now much better. Everyone is feeling reassured," he said. "We are not happy about this, but this is an emergency situation and it will not last more than a day or two and the situation will return to normal."

Security forces appeared to show more government control in videos posted online by activists Monday. Some of the clips show Syrian militia sweeping through Damascus neighborhoods once held by rebels, kicking down doors and searching houses in mop up operations against the fighters that had managed to hold parts of the capital for much of last week.

It was a different story in Aleppo, however, where the Britain-based Syria Observatory reported fierce fighting in a string of neighborhoods, including Sakhour and Hanano, in the northeast of Syria's largest city.

Several videos posted by activists showed rebels battling regime tanks in Sakhour's narrow streets. In one clip, a tank on fire rumbles along a road after being hit by rebels as a man jumps out of the flaming turret. Other videos showed cheering rebels celebrating around destroyed tanks, even driving around one they had captured.

The rebel advance has been a swift turnaround in the momentum of the uprising, which began in March 2011. Still, the opposition remains hobbled by divisions within their ranks and the fact that they are outgunned by the well-armed regime. The violence, meanwhile, has become far more unstable than many had ever imagined, with al-Qaida and other extremists exploiting the chaos.

Still, the opposition fighters have kept up their battle for 17 months, chipping away at government power and penetrating the aura of invincibility that the Assad family dynasty has built up over four decades in power.

Gulf nations such as Saudi Arabia and Qatar have pledged funds to aid Syria's rebels, but there is no clear trail showing how much is reaching the fighters.

U.S. officials are debating whether to step up aid to the rebels, including sending in heavy weaponry, but officials are worried the aid may end up in the hands of Islamic militants who have infiltrated the rebel Free Syrian Army, the American official said.

Former CIA officer Reuel Marc Gerecht, who is now a scholar at the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies, said Friday that the agency has only a handful of operatives working on the Turkish side of the Syrian border, helping allies who want to give the rebels aid identify which groups are legitimate.

The agency has distributed encrypted radios to the rebels to help them coordinate their attacks. Gerecht has called for the White House to initiate a covert CIA operation inside Syria, to help arm the rebels with weaponry able to take down the helicopter gunships menacing Syrian towns.

Even as the government appeared to be reasserting control in the capital after the weeklong rebel assault, the Arab League offered Assad and his family a "safe exit" if he steps down.

Assad, 46, is married with three young children under the age of 13.

"This request comes from all the ... Arab states: Step aside," said Qatari Prime Minister Hamid bin Jassim Al Thani at an Arab League foreign ministers meeting in Doha, Qatar, that concluded at dawn Monday. He urged Syria to form a temporary transitional government to plan for a possible post-Assad era. Makdissi dismissed the offer as "flagrant interventionism."

The Arab League has already suspended Syria's membership and it is doubtful that Assad will pay much attention to their calls.

Do you ever tire of hearing that a Hollywood remake is in the pipeline, when the ink has hardly dried on the original script? Like "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo", "Cell 211" and "Let The Right One In" before it, this is another that has had the green light for an English language version. It's easy to see why there would be interest in this as it's an exceptionally good thriller. I just don't see why it's necessary to have it redone. Roger Brown (Aksel Hennie) is a high-flying businessman who works as a headhunter. He scouts potential applicants for executive jobs. While interviewing them, he learns very useful information that leads him to his second source of income: a sideline in executing valuable art robberies. His extravagant and expensive lifestyle can't be funded by his headhunting job alone. One particular interviewee is Clas Greve (Nicolaj Coster-Waldau). He has all the credentials for a post that Brown needs to fill but he also has just inherited a piece of art that will cure all of Brown's financial woes - if he can just get his hands on it. As it turns out though, this art theft is not as simple as his previous ones and Greve is not as buttoned up as he makes out. As this film opens we are introduced to unlikely leading actor Aksel Hennie who has an appearance that resembles the love child of Christopher Walken and Steve Buscemi. He's not your average leading man and his character is not that appealing either. He's a self-centred weasel of a man that seems to lack any morals but you know that things are, not entirely, going to go to plan for this scheming, double-crossing thief and that's exactly what captures your attention and provides the hook in this adaptation of Norwegian writer Jo Nesbo's novel. Director Morten Tyldum is wise enough to play his cards when he needs them and wrings out the suspense, masterfully, at every turn. He mounts the tension slowly before staging one gripping scene after another. The unpredictability of the spiralling plot delivers genuine excitement, helped immeasurably by natural characters and performers. Hennie in particular, is absolutely brilliant and will no doubt become a household name after this (apparently he already is, in his native Norway). Kudos to screenwriters Lars Gudmstead and Ulf Ryberg. It's their tight, deliberately paced and unpredictable script that keeps you guessing and shows a good level of intelligence. Admittedly, I haven't read the novel but if I were author Jo Nesbo, I'd be very proud of the job that has been done here. When the headhunter becomes the headhunted, this film grips like a vice and refuses to let go. I've seen quite a few film's from Scandinavia over recent years and have been very impressed with the high standard they are delivering. This is no exception and a thriller that will definitely compete with the best of the year.

Two Roof Covering Styles to Enhance the Feel of Your Residence

The roof covering system of a home can make the adage "two heads are better than one" occur, in both figurative and literal sense. Some people aren't simply happy with one roofing style, as they would like to up the bet by going for yet another roof covering style. The outcome is an appealing roofing style that raises a residence's visual and, definitely, market value.

While numerous suburbs have houses with a minimum of one roof covering design, homes with a minimum of two are a common sight. Stars and very important individuals with a huge house are more most likely to use two roof covering styles to cover the entire house area. It can be said that different sections of the home demand different roofing styles. Here are a few crucial people whose residences have two or even more roof covering styles.

Ryan Seacrest

American Idol host Ryan Seacrest recently bought a home belonging to TV host Ellen DeGeneres for almost 50 million dollars. This realty in Beverly Hills mainly has a flat roof but a grey hip roof covering at the center. The hip roof gets rid of the plainness and recursion of flat roof coverings to provide it an adjustable design.

Justin Bieber

Teen singer Justin Bieber recently purchased a home for $ 6 million in Calabasas, California. This realty has a roof covering design so complex you can not identify what roofing designs are featured at first glimpse. Many of the home holds a cross hip roofing design, however some areas of Bieber's brand-new manor has gable roofs put in.

Steven Tyler

The frontman of Aerosmith Steven Tyler, currently the judge of American Idol, purchased a residence in tropical Maui for $ 4.8 million. The principal house features an unique hexagonal hip roof covering, generally seen in gazebos, while a secondary house comes with a gable roof. Besides the texture and color of the roof covering, this Maui home gives off a tropical environment appropriate for Hawaiian life. Salt Lake City roofers say that roof covering combinations may indicate your personal traits.

Blair Bangerter

Disney gave the green light for house builder Blair Bangerter to construct the renowned home in the movie "Up." Now housing a California family, a look-alike in Herriman, Utah, entices hundreds of tourists every single day. Salt Lake City roofing professionals determine the house having a simple hip roof covering with a Dutch gable roof variant for the garage.

You can also look at more houses of celebs with several roof covering designs by watching the slideshow at abcnews.go.com. Additionally, ask roofing specialists to recognize whether or not your home is fit to have two types of roofing Salt Lake City UT homes have.

Scientists connect seawater chemistry with climate change and evolution

Friday, July 20, 2012

Humans get most of the blame for climate change, with little attention paid to the contribution of other natural forces. Now, scientists from the University of Toronto and the University of California Santa Cruz are shedding light on one potential cause of the cooling trend of the past 45 million years that has everything to do with the chemistry of the world's oceans.

"Seawater chemistry is characterized by long phases of stability, which are interrupted by short intervals of rapid change," says Professor Ulrich Wortmann in the Department of Earth Sciences at the University of Toronto, lead author of a study to be published in Science this week. "We've established a new framework that helps us better interpret evolutionary trends and climate change over long periods of time. The study focuses on the past 130 million years, but similar interactions have likely occurred through the past 500 million years."

Wortmann and co-author Adina Paytan of the Institute of Marine Sciences at the University of California Santa Cruz point to the collision between India and Eurasia approximately 50 million years ago as one example of an interval of rapid change. This collision enhanced dissolution of the most extensive belt of water-soluble gypsum on Earth, stretching from Oman to Pakistan, and well into Western India ? remnants of which are well exposed in the Zagros mountains.

The authors suggest that the dissolution or creation of such massive gyspum deposits will change the sulfate content of the ocean, and that this will affect the amount of sulfate aerosols in the atmosphere and thus climate. "We propose that times of high sulfate concentrations in ocean water correlate with global cooling, just as times of low concentration correspond with greenhouse periods," says Paytan.

"When India and Eurasia collided, it caused dissolution of ancient salt deposits which resulted in drastic changes in seawater chemistry," Paytan continues. "This may have led to the demise of the Eocene epoch ? the warmest period of the modern-day Cenozoic era ? and the transition from a greenhouse to icehouse climate, culminating in the beginning of the rapid expansion of the Antarctic ice sheet."

The researchers combined data of past seawater sulfur composition, assembled by Paytan in 2004, with Wortmann's recent discovery of the strong link between marine sulfate concentrations and carbon and phosphorus cycling. They were able to explain the seawater sulfate isotope record as a result of massive changes to the accumulation and weathering of gyspum ? the mineral form of hydrated calcium sulfate.

"While it has been known for a long time that gyspum deposits can be formed and destroyed rapidly, the effect of these processes on seawater chemistry has been overlooked," says Wortmann. "The idea represents a paradigm shift in our understanding of how ocean chemistry changes over time and how these changes are linked to climate."

If Meadows Speak....: when words are frozen thick like ice

I've been paralyzed, lately. They say to push through the silence and write anyway but even my pusher seems broken.

I've been busy?with more than just working this land (we have 400 bales in a field waiting to be "{wo}man" handled onto a trailer). It's all the questions and contemplating in my head that keeps me occupied.

Even tonight (middle of the night 'til morning), here I am writing because I can't seem to stop thinking long enough during the day to write anything at all.

Until it's time to sleep and I think, "I need to write so I can process all this thinking!"

So I've been doing mindless stuff. I peruse other blogs, read online news, check in with facebook, go swimming, mow the grass,?head to the?fields?with our John Deere tractor and hay rake, decorate the house.

Anything but write.

I have a split personality. One that can't imagine not writing, and the other that wonders why I write at all. Deep down I think I have?the disease of?commitment phobitis for things I'm passionate about doing. So I run for the hills.

That is, until the hills take my breath away and I need to write about them.

But for now, I question why it's hard to be the Body? I mean really be the Body. And where am I in all that?

What is enough, anyway? When is it enough and, poof!, there's the answer?

Why?does it feel like I'm breathing?stagnant air with every sluggish letter I type? Is that?good discipline or uninspired?self-will to take action against my inaction?

I know this--I need to process and soon. That will mean writing. But I'm not ready, yet.

This where I should get all David-y and turn this "psalm" around.

The sun is up now. Daring me to be as bold and bright as?it's greeting this morning. Light is flooding the whole earth while I soak it in, my eyes like beacons to my heart.

"See that heart? All that glossy green waving at you as it sways with a shine from a cloudless sky? Feel that warm summer breeze making that beautiful orange butterfly dance over the flower? (Speaking of butterflies, there have been so many, I don't remember seeing this many before.) Oh and heart, the rainbow last weekend, 'memba that?"

God is revealing Himself, all the time. Even if I don't have enough even two words to rub together to?say it.

He never stops His Word. He is always writing and speaking.

So there is hope.

At Lisa Jo's....

China's online population rises to 538 million

(AP) ? China's population of Internet users, already the world's biggest, has risen to 538 million, driven by rapid growth in wireless Web surfing, an industry group said Thursday.

The latest figure represents an 11 percent increase from a year earlier, according to the report by the China Internet Network Information Center. The government sanctioned group said that raised the share of China's population that uses the Internet to 39.9 percent.

The number of people who go online from mobile phones and other wireless devices rose to 388 million, the group said. That was up 22 percent from a year earlier.

China's communist government encourages Internet use for business and education but tries to block access to material considered subversive or obscene. Authorities tightened controls after social networking and other websites played a key role in protests that brought down governments in Egypt and Tunisia.

The rise of Internet use and the explosive popularity of wireless access have driven the growth of a series of new Chinese industries from microblogs to online video.

This month, regulators tightened control over online video, telling providers they must prescreen all material before making it available. The government complained that some online video was vulgar, pornographic or too violent.

Swipe Fee Revolution

The typical American probably doesn?t think much about the behind-the-scenes workings of his or her credit cards. But beneath the placid surface of swiping and signing, a ferocious legal battle has been waged for years that this week became the largest antitrust settlement in U.S. history. Since the ability to accept credit cards is useful to merchants and launching a new payment network is difficult, Visa, MasterCard, and other card-issuing banks can charge stores for access. And pay merchants do in the form of lucrative swipe fees to the credit card companies. These fees are, somewhat oddly, not only hidden from customers? view but in a strange way not even charged to the card users whose actions incur them. The standard terms tell stores that not only must they pay extra for each credit card purchase, but they must not up-charge customers who use cards. Insofar as the card fees raise consumer prices, in other words, the pain must be spread evenly across the entire purchasing population no matter how they pay.

Bomb hoax puts stadium safety in spotlight

As they watched a Detroit Tigers baseball game, 40,000 sports fans were unaware that dozens of police, security guards and federal agents were swiftly searching the stadium for a possible bomb after someone phoned in a threat to 911.

Authorities made no announcement over the public address system. Ushers said nothing to the crowd.

Jason Miller, a suburban Detroit rabbi, left the game against the Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday night and didn't learn about the threat until the following day.

"I immediately started thinking, 'What if?'" he said. "What if they had to evacuate?"

Miller's concerns highlighted a vexing question for organizers of major public events: Should large crowds be informed about unconfirmed threats to their safety? Or is better to keep the matter quiet until investigators can check into it?

If authorities "evacuate every time there is a bomb threat, there will be a lot of empty places," said Steve Layne of Layne Consultants International, a Denver-based firm that specializes in the protection of libraries, museums and other cultural institutions and public facilities.

PFT: Bomb threat accompanied Candlestick blackout

"You can't just pull a fire alarm and yell run. An evacuation in the middle of a ball game does cause some problems. You're running the risk of causing injuries."

Third threat in week
The threat at Comerica Park was the third bomb threat to a Detroit landmark in less than a week. On Monday, someone claimed to have placed a bomb on the Ambassador Bridge linking Detroit with Windsor, Ontario, in Canada.

And on July 12, a similar threat forced the closing of the Detroit Windsor international tunnel beneath the river. In each case, emergency procedures went off without a hitch, and no bombs were found.

But Miller wasn't satisfied, saying fans "had a right to know what happened."

He said the park or the Tigers "could have in a very safe calm manner informed the crowd, if it was indeed a serious threat."

After the other threats, the tunnel and bridge were cleared of traffic while police and bomb-sniffing dogs searched for explosives.

In Detroit, police followed the stadium's security protocols, and a decision was made not to evacuate, said Donald Johnson, an inspector in the police department's Homeland Security unit.

"We don't make a decision to evacuate unless an actual device is found," Johnson said. "We don't panic. We go step by step. The thought was to find out what we actually had."

JetBlue flight diverted after telephone bomb threat

In a statement, the Tigers insisted the safety of fans, employees and players was the primary concern.

The team "worked closely and collaboratively with law enforcement officials and followed firmly established protocols," spokesman Ron Colangelo said.

The goal is not to create a panic, according to Lou Marciani, director of the National Center for Spectator Sports Safety at the University of Southern Mississippi at Hattiesburg.

"You don't want to get the spectators involved," he said. "Protocol is to do the search. Do it quickly, efficiently."

If the search had turned up a real bomb, an entirely different scenario would have unfolded, he said.

The National Center for Spectator Sports Safety is beginning to keep records of unclassified incidents at all stadiums worldwide. But no one knows how often stadiums receive bomb threats, Marciani said.

"Professional sports and many of the major colleges have evacuation plans," he said. "They do tabletop exercises and refine them all the time. There are pregame processes, in-game processes. If the protocol calls for the movement of people, it would have been done very efficiently in Detroit."

Alaska Airlines flight swept after bomb threat

If a bomb is found "the decision to evacuate is made for you," Layne said. "Then you have to think about if there is staff available to assist moving crowds away from the device, if you have a safe assembly area."

Threat not uncommon
It's not uncommon for sports stadiums ? college and professional ? to receive bomb threats, but few are evacuated, and the threats are rarely publicized for fear of inspiring copycats.

"You are not going to see it discussed unless it's a significant issue," Layne said.

A few thousand people were ushered out of Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium in Washington, D.C., during a 2004 band competition after a bomb threat. A search of the stadium found nothing.

The announcement was made over the public address system.

Two years ago, some stands behind home plate and in front of the press box were cleared at the New York Mets' Citi Field after a suspicious bag was found under an empty seat during a rain delay.

No public announcement was made.

On Wednesday, authorities in Detroit were trying to determine if the Comerica Park threat was linked to the earlier threats at the bridge and tunnel. No one has been arrested.

dinda-logoWith today's launch of Dinda.com.br, the founding team behind Brazil-based?Baby.com.br, is expanding into a new vertical following the success of its original, but more traditional, e-commerce offering targeting new parents.
